Visiting a preschool can feel overwhelming. A short list of questions helps you compare schools fairly and notice what matters. Take these with you, and watch the children as well as listening to the answers.
- How many children are in each class, and how many adults?
- What training do the teachers have?
- What does a normal day look like, from drop-off to pick-up?
- How do you help a new child settle in?
- What happens when a child is upset or there is a conflict between children?
- How do you share each child’s progress with parents?
- What do the children eat, and how are allergies handled?
- How is the outdoor space used, and how often do children go outside?
- What languages are spoken in class?
- How do you keep children safe, and who can collect them?
Above all, notice how the place feels. Are the children calm and busy? Do the adults speak kindly and kneel to talk to them? Would your child be happy here?
