Safeguarding & photo policy

Every child at Cedrus has the right to be safe, respected and listened to. This is how we protect them, and what we ask of families and visitors.

Our commitment

Keeping children safe comes before everything else we do. Every adult at Cedrus shares that responsibility: teachers, assistants, support staff and volunteers. This page summarises our full safeguarding policy, which parents can ask to read at any time.

Who to talk to

Our Designated Safeguarding Lead is [name and role, to confirm], supported by [deputy, to confirm]. They make sure every concern is recorded and acted on, and that staff are trained. You can speak to them at school or on +233 24 588 8858.

Safer staff

Everyone who works with children at Cedrus is checked before they start. We take up references, confirm identity and qualifications, and ask for a police background check [checks to confirm with the school]. All staff complete safeguarding training when they join and refresh it every year.

Every day at school

Visitors sign in at the gate, wear a visitor badge and are accompanied at all times. No visitor is ever left alone with a child. Toileting and nappy changing are done gently and respectfully by the child's own class team. Staff do not use personal phones in the classrooms [to confirm].

Arrival and collection

We only hand a child over to their parents or to an adult named on the application form. If someone new is collecting, please tell us in advance by phone or WhatsApp; they will be asked to show photo ID. If we can't confirm who is collecting, your child stays safely with us until we reach you.

If we are worried about a child

If a member of staff is worried about a child, they write down what they saw or heard and tell the Designated Safeguarding Lead the same day. In most cases we will talk to you first. Where a child may be at risk of harm, we follow Ghana's Children's Act, 1998 (Act 560) and may contact the Department of Social Welfare or the police straight away.

If you are worried about a child, or about the behaviour of anyone at the school, please speak to the Designated Safeguarding Lead. Concerns about a member of staff go to the head of school, [name, to confirm]. Every concern is taken seriously and handled discreetly.

Photos and video

We love sharing what the children do at school, and we do it carefully. On the application form you choose whether we may use photos of your child. You can change your mind at any time by telling us.

On our website and social media we never show a child's full name with their photo, and never post photos of children whose parents haven't agreed.

Staff take photos only on school devices, never on personal phones.

At school events you're welcome to photograph your own child. Please don't post photos online that show other children without their parents' permission.

Online safety

Young children at Cedrus don't use the internet on their own. When we use a screen, a teacher chooses what is shown and stays with the children.

Reviewing this policy

We review this policy every year, and sooner if the law or our practice changes. How we handle personal information is explained in our Privacy policy.
